About Let's Talk Dayton

Let's Talk Dayton began as a way to bridge the gap and start conversations in the community. BDM sisters goals is to connect their website with Let's talk Dayton so that we can create a brighter future for our youth.

BDM Sister’s Group Home, LLC was founded in 2020 by Star Neloms and Akiya Halfacre. Together, they brought nearly a decade of experiences working with at-risk youth within the Dayton community. Ms. Halfacre received an A.A in psychology from Sinclair Community College and went to pursue a B.A in Organizational Leadership from Wilberforce University. And Ms. Neloms always having a love for young people has always wanted a change in our community, so she went on to receive her B.A in Criminal Justice from Wright State University.  Having many years of experiences, both ladies' felt they had a bigger purpose and they decided they wanted to make a change by starting a group home for adolescent boys who are in Children Services custody.

BDM Sister’s Group Home, LLC began with the following inspiration and design: Our motivation in founding BDM Sister’s Group Home, LLC was that every youth deserves a chance for a new beginning. Whether that new beginning entailed transitioning out of their parent's home or coming from a previous placement, we wanted our homes to be a fresh start for each youth. We designed this with the philosophy that we would not expect anyone to live in a house that we couldn't see ourselves living in. and like most, we believe it takes a village to raise and help the youth in the community and you are a part of that village.

We are realizing that to be a provider of choice, we need to be an employer of choice. We understand that quality starts with the people we have in our direct care positions. Understanding that in order to stand out in the community in this line of business, we have to bridge gaps between the needed community resources, the Juvenile system, and the prison system in order for our youth to grow and not become a statistic.

BDM Sisters Group Homes' goal is to promote the social inclusion of the LGBT community. We strive to make an effort to increase the level of knowledge about LGBT people and the discrimination and violence they face
